Veterinary Technicians
Veterinary technicians are key in helping veterinarians maintain a high standard of animal care. Technicians are trained to handle many aspects of patient care and laboratory procedures, in addition to other duties. Most veterinary technicians have earned either a two-year or three-year degree in veterinary technology, and many have obtained certification from their province. A veterinary technician’s responsibilities are varied and no day in the veterinary hospital is ever the same. It is not uncommon to find veterinary technicians taking x-rays, performing dental cleanings, assisting in surgery or administering vaccines. Other tasks may include client education, office/hospital management and conducting laboratory procedures.
Client Service Representatives
Client service representatives make veterinary hospitals run smoothly and efficiently. Trained in customer relations, client services representatives are the first face clients see when they enter a veterinary hospital. Answering phones, setting up appointments and performing administrative tasks are among a client service representative’s primary duties. However, client service representatives also take an active role in interacting with and educating clients. A client service representative helps clients understand the medical care and services provided at the hospital, outline post-surgical care for pets and assists clients in obtaining any information they need to make informed decisions about their pet’s health.
